Estilos NY Gladys is a hair salon on Steinway Street in Long Island City, open since May 2018. Here we do color, treatments, cuts for women and men, and blowouts. Before we start, we listen to what you want and tell you what is possible with your hair.
We serve you in Spanish, English and some Portuguese. Walk-ins are welcome too.
A life dedicated to the art of transformation
Gladys’s story as a stylist began in Venezuela, when she was just 25 years old. Like many great professionals, she started from the bottom, learning every detail of the craft and beginning with one of the humblest jobs in a hair salon: washing hair. But from the start she had something that set her apart: an enormous passion for hair, a constant willingness to learn, and the drive to become a true beauty artist.
In her early years she had the opportunity to work and learn alongside well-known Venezuelan professionals, including stylists who had received the prestigious Tijera de Oro (Golden Scissors) award, who over time became mentors and left a deep mark on her training. Those years were fundamental to perfecting her technique, developing her creativity, and mastering the art of scissor work, cuts, and the styles that defined an era.
Her career later took her to JanPool, a well-known salon in Caracas connected to the beauty world and to preparing and styling contestants for Venezuelan beauty pageants at the time. There she was immersed in a highly professional environment, where precision, image, and creativity were essential.
In the mid-1980s, Gladys took her experience beyond Venezuela and arrived in Ecuador, where her talent began opening new doors. She was hired by Wella to teach seminars for beauty professionals, sharing her knowledge of coloring, color techniques, and the styles that were setting trends in those years.
Her experience also reached television. Ecuavisa brought her on as a stylist to work on the production of the telenovela "Los que vendrán," where she was in charge of the cast’s hair and image across several episodes. At the same time, she kept developing professionally and traveling outside Guayaquil to share and refine her knowledge.
In time, Gladys opened her own salon in Guayaquil, where she earned wide recognition and built a clientele that valued not only her technique but also her dedication and the personal care she brought to every service.
Starting in 2000, a new chapter began in New York. Far from settling for what she had already learned, she kept training, studying new techniques and staying current with international trends in the beauty industry. Between 2015 and 2017 she attended the IBS conventions, known today as the Be+Well Beauty and Wellness Show, once again broadening her knowledge and keeping alive the spirit of learning that has stayed with her throughout her career.
In May 2018, she made another of her dreams come true: she opened Estilos NY Gladys, her own space in New York. Since then, she has had the chance to serve the community with the same passion that launched her career decades earlier.
Today, Gladys continues doing what she loves: transforming, creating, and making people feel good through their hair. Her path is the result of decades of work, learning, perseverance, and love for her profession.
From the young woman who started out washing hair in Venezuela to the stylist who today keeps creating styles in New York, her story shows that talent can open doors — but it is discipline, passion, and the drive to keep learning that build a real career.
